Who Gets Custody of My Joy?
On HBO Max, Dev Patel, and the Gaga-Phoenix collab. Hand me RPatz’ burner acct.
On the whole, I was never verily the individual to be lead on by streaming services.—Although, Netflix successfully brought down Blockbuster (Rest In Peace?? Wait, my bad.) and my other subscriptions like Hulu remains to put up a good fight, throughout my life I reveled in purchasing DVDs with their bonus features quite more. This occurrence had strongly remained until the Holy Grail: HBO Max. But apparently, Warner bros. might be praying for my sister’s downfall….
Among Netflix’s *coughs sustained lesbophobia, Warner bros. had quietly removed HBO Max originals like they were ‘Girls Of The Year’ at American Girl. The list of archetypes included Charm City Kings, Amsterdam, The Witches (2020), Mrs.Fletcher, Moonshot, Run, Camping, An American Pickle, Chad, and using the highly anticipated Batgirl film starring Leslie Grace and Brendan Fraser accompanied by Scoob!: Holiday Haunt as tax write-offs. Without delay, the HBO Maxxinstas (Such as me.) launched into panic, wondering if Warner.bros were inflicting a Scenes from a Marriage (2021) upon HBO and if our particular favorite HBO Max originals were expected to walk toward the guillotine, too.
But then we began to ask : “Why is this even happening?” And girlllllll (androgynous), the Warner bros.’ presentation yesterday explained it all. Seemingly, on the report of JB Perrette, the new CEO and president of WB, has officially decided to merge HBO Max and Discovery+ into one streaming service. “Our primary focus for the rollout will be in the markets where HBO Max has already launched,” said Perrette. “We plan to launch the service sequentially starting in the U.S. next summer. Latin America will follow later in the year. European markets with HBO Max will follow in early ‘24, with additional launches and key Asia Pacific territories and some new European markets coming later in 2024.”
Believe it or not, the unveiling added a breakdown of how Warner bros Discovery are setting HBO Max and Discovery+ apart from each other :
Personally, I have no idea how they consider the media on HBO Max to be further “male skew” than what’s promoted on Discovery+. As soon as you dive into the HBO Max originals category, you’ll see dramas like Gossip Girl (2021), The Flight Attendant, Hacks, Minx, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Rap Sh!t, and Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin—which are largely my ride or di-*PLEASE STANDBY—you would expect that the intended audience were women. It seems as if the people of WB just made reference to gay men as the so called “male skew.” And somehow whenever I see Discovery+, I think of Animal Planet or that episode of Documentary Now! where they parodied Vice by showing journalists’ trying to locate a drug lord in Juarez and their Mexico guide was Ty Dolla $ign.
Besides that, David Zaslav, former CEO and president of WB, has stepped to the mic and shared his thoughts on the forthcoming change as well. He confirmed that HBO’s content will be heavily focused on and endure safety. "We think that product will be superb. It’s about curation, it’s about quality, it’s about how good. The center spoke of that is the quality of HBO Max.” said Zaslav. “HBO and the Max originals remains the unequivocal home of the best streaming television and remains the centerpiece of our combined streaming platform.”
THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINGGG- Well, everything would’ve been okay if you had Dev Patel on speed dial 🙄
It appears on August 1st, Dev Patel triumphantly broke up a knife fight in Australia. As reported by the country’s 7News, a man and a woman were fighting in the street in addition to a convenience store during the stabbing of the man’s chest. Luckily, he is assumed to survive.
“We can confirm that last night, in Adelaide, Dev Patel and his friends witnessed a violent altercation that was already in progress outside of a convenience store,” the Oscar nominee’s spokesperson expressed to Variety. “Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight. The group was thankfully successful in doing so and they remained on site to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived.”
Furthermore, the statement from Patel’s team emphasized that “there are no heroes in this situation and sadly this specific incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalized members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
The declaration finished with : “The hope is that the same level of media attention this story is receiving (surely because Dev is famous and was involved 🫣) can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large.”
On a private but endmost note, Fund Unproblematic & Kind Floppy Haired Men. They do better than the police.
I didn’t see this coming, Martin Scorsese didn’t see this coming, Gone Girl’s knight in shining armor and realist David Fincher didn’t see this coming—in fact, YOU didn’t see this coming—but the diegeses to my previous supervillain origin story has thickened…
Pop singer-songwriter and Oscar winner, Lady Gaga is ostensibly joining the DC Universe. According to ET, she will star facing Joaquin Phoenix, who is returning to the main role after winning the best actor Oscar, in “Joker 2.” The sequel is officially titled “Joker: Folie à Deux” and will be released in theaters on October 4th, 2024 (Anything subsequent to that is not a real year.)
Yesterday Gaga shared the news through a social media post below :
I’m not downright excited about the motion picture; but I am looking forward to the aftermath. The way cis men behaved about the first installment is how the gays will act in regard to this one. Plus if the rumors are true about it potentially being a musical … imagine the POWER it’ll have during award season …
⚠️Time to BEllow⚠️
And that’s it folks! Thank you for reading. This weekend I will be rereading Emrata’s (Emily Ratajkowski) twitter likes re her imminent divorce/freedom, starting her book, thinking about Season 2 of The Bear (We renewed, baby!), finishing Ethan Hawke’s doc on Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and giving Surrender by Maggie Rogers a few more streams. My favorites right now are : Overdrive, Begging For Rain, and Symphony. That Renaissance album nearly made me forget about Maggie yet here I am. Until next time ✌🏽
